Not new territory for us
As a partner to companies in the energy and building-management sector, this wasn't new territory for us — we regularly help long-time Zoho users rediscover functionality they're already paying for but have never fully configured. What made the difference for metr wasn't just knowing Zoho, but taking the time to understand a business model that looked simple on the surface and turned out to be anything but underneath.
Understanding the business before touching the system
metr Building Management Systems GmbH operates in the energy sector, developing AI-based software for optimizing energy consumption in existing buildings — combining energy management and heating optimization into one solution that improves efficiency without costly renovation work. "metr's business model is clear and simple. The processes behind it, however, are often complex," is how Carsten Rummel, Director Finance & Accounting at metr, describes the biggest challenge of the project. We had to get to grips with those processes ourselves before we could support metr precisely where it needed it — and the close collaboration helped metr's own team understand how processes should correctly be set up in Zoho going forward.
Transparency throughout
Being able to track progress at any time mattered to metr as much as the outcome itself. Rather than waiting for status updates, the team could check implementation status whenever they wanted, live in Zoho Projects — turning a project they'd otherwise have to take on faith into one they could actually watch take shape.
